MIDI
EDITOR
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q : Will there be a Mac version of MIDI EDITOR ?
A : Somebody buy
us a Mac !
Q : In looking at MIDI EDITOR I couldn't find any fully configured
editing windows already set up. I would like to see some examples of how
complex the editor window can get and how the program responds.
A : Well, some of
the presets come with edition windows (try synths like the Roland JV-80
or the Korg M1). You can also check 'Download presets'.
Q : I would like to use the midi editor, but I cannot quite figure
out how it works.
A : A question that
is asked quite often. The first thing to do is to create a Bank Type. We've
added a reminder in the 'Bank Types' form in the new version.
Q : Please let me know when you have a full commercial version of this
program.
A : Download the
demonstration file, send your check and registration code, and you have
the full version!
Q : I haven't seen the (write your synth's name here) in the list of
presets. Maybe later?
A : The fact that a particular synth does not
appear in the preset list does not mean that MIDI EDITOR won't work with
that particular synth, but only that no-one has developped a preset for
that synth yet. Why not do it yourself? MIDI EDITOR is fully programmable!
Q : Could I use "MIDI Editor" with only a sound card (like the TB Pinnacle,
for example) or do I need to have some external piece of hardware to take
advantage of you software's capabilities?
A : MIDI EDITOR
is a MIDI device manager, that is to say, a MIDI device (any instrument
with a pair of MIDI sockets, and that understands System Exclusive messages
(Sysex)) must be connected to your computer.
Q : I am a composer and I am looking for a midi editor that can print
my midifiles, so, I would like to know if your software can do that.
A : MIDI EDITOR
is not a sequencer. MIDI EDITOR can not be used to print scores. MIDI EDITOR
is a MIDI editor. A MIDI sounds editor.
Q : I get an error in french when I launch MIDI EDITOR. Is that normal,
and does it remain in the registered version.
A : Normally with
the new version, you shouldn't get that error anymore. Here's how to check
if you've got a correct version:
If your user code ends with a letter that is
inferior or equal to 'F' - like '3251841E86 F', for instance - then you
don't have the latest version. Try downloading it (http://perso.magic.fr/llebot/editor.zip).
Q : I've got a 'Tips.ini file not found' message when I launch MIDI
EDITOR..
A : You don't have
the latest version. See preceeding question.
Q : Windows runs out of memory when I use MIDI EDITOR.
A : MIDI Editor
is a 16 bit program. That means the memory management is not as effecient
as it would have been in 32 bit... This kind of problem may happen:
1) if you run other programs at the same time
(so now you know what you have to do)
2) if your eduser.ini is too big (that means
you've got a lot of parameters, and especially user-defined forms). What
you can do is try to split your eduser.ini :
- Make a copy of your MIDI
EDITOR directory
- delete one or more bank
types in the original MIDI EDITOR version
- delete everything else in
the second version
Note that the code calculation algorithm is not
affected by changes of directories.
3) Though it may happen with 32 bit versions
of Windows, this problem happens more often under Windows 3.1.
